I recently had the opportunity to test out the Cinema 4K app and was highly impressed with its capabilities. This professional video recorder app offers a wide range of features that allow users to get the most out of their Android camera.

One standout feature of Cinema 4K is its support for 4K/UHD resolution, which provides incredible clarity and detail in videos. Additionally, the app offers manual focus and exposure settings, giving users full control over their video capture process. These features allow for a more professional and cinematic look in videos.

One unique aspect of Cinema 4K is its introduction of Flat Profile mode, which is similar to the profiles used in professional cameras such as Cinelike D, S-Log2, V-Log L, and ProTune. This mode enhances the dynamic range of videos, resulting in footage that is ideal for post-production and color grading.

While using the trial version of Cinema 4K, I found that it only allows users to record one-minute-long clips. However, this limitation does not detract from the app's overall performance and functionality.

I was pleased to discover that Cinema 4K supports a variety of resolutions, including 4K/UHD (2160p), Full HD (1080p), and HD (720p). In terms of frame rates, the app offers options such as 24fps, 25fps, and 30fps. Additionally, users can adjust the video bitrate from 15 Mbps up to an impressive 200 Mbps.

Other notable features include the ability to save video files to an external SD card, auto white balance with lock and adjust features, manual focus with focus assist, exposure compensation and lock options, as well as manual exposure settings for ISO and exposure time adjustments. The app also includes a flat profile mode for increased dynamic range and noise reduction configuration.

Cinema 4K further enhances the user experience through additional features such as grid display (rule of thirds, center cross), aspect mark display (16:9, 1.85:1, 2:1, 2.35:1), and a digital horizon level display based on accelerometer. Furthermore, the app allows users to adjust video orientation settings, with a specific option for Nexus 5X owners to ensure correct video orientation.

During recording, users will receive a low disk space warning in the last 10 seconds to avoid running out of storage. Additionally, Cinema 4K provides flexibility for modifying focus, white balance, and exposure settings during recording by simply tapping on the screen.

It's worth noting that Cinema 4K supports the Camera2 API, which ensures optimum performance and quality. While the app is primarily designed for phones and tablets that support 4K video recording, it is also capable of recording Full HD or HD videos on devices that do not support 4K.

However, it's important to remember that recording a 4K/UHD video can be resource-intensive. To ensure a smooth recording process and avoid issues, it is strongly recommended to close any unnecessary background tasks prior to starting the recording.

In the event that you have any questions or comments about the app, the developers encourage you to reach out to them at info@frozenvolcano.com.

As a testament to Cinema 4K's capabilities, I want to share a short clip created using this app: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBDB3huCrYc]. The quality of the footage speaks for itself.

Before concluding my review, I want to emphasize an important notice regarding Cinema 4K. To use this app, your phone must have the Camera2 API implemented by the device manufacturer. Without this implementation, Cinema 4K will not function as intended. The Camera2 API is crucial for manipulating pixel data at a deep level, and only the device manufacturers can address any issues with its implementation.

There have been reported issues with the mp4 encoder engine on certain models, such as some Marshmallow Samsung Galaxy devices and the LG G4. Unfortunately, this issue lies with the mp4/h.264 encoding subsystem, which is independent of the application. As developers, we are unable to fix this issue ourselves. We have reported the problem to the affected manufacturers and hope they will address it promptly.

For those who encounter this issue, there is a workaround available:

  1. Restart your phone
  2. Record a short clip using Cinema 4K immediately after restarting as a reference
  3. Record your desired videos (note that they may be corrupted)
  4. Download and use the "MP4Fix" app from the Google Play Store to fix the corrupt mp4 file using the reference video you recorded

We hope that device manufacturers will address these issues related to their Camera2 API implementation soon.
